When and why did you decide to work in the Optometric field?
At 17 years old, I enlisted into the Air Force Reserve and chose the job of Ophthalmic Technician. My technical training showed me how great it was to work in Optometry. From that point on, I studied towards becoming an Optometrist.
What do you enjoy about Optometry?
It brings me joy when a patient experiences clear vision for the first time when I show them their glasses prescription. They had no clue what they were missing.
What do you enjoy in your current job?
I enjoy being able to educate patients about their eyes in English and Spanish.
Where did you go to school?
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Biological Science (Cell and Developmental) with a minor in Chemistry from California State University, Fullerton. Followed by my Doctor of Optometry degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Ca.
What are your hobbies?
During my spare time, I enjoy being with my loved ones, weight lifting, crafting, and photography.
Where do you plan for your next vacation?
Camping by the beach with my husband and dog.
Any favorite last words, advice, quotes of wisdom?
Please don’t take your eyes for granted. See an eye doctor every year, if possible, even if you see clearly.
The American Optometric Association Clinical Practice Guidelines state, “First eye exam at 6-12 months, at least once between 3-5 years, before first grade, then annually thereafter.
